“I don't know. They used to be human, why are we afraid of them then?? I mean, humans are not necessarily better than ghosts. They have all the reason to be scared of us as well.”
“I don’t know, why are you asking me??? He isn’t exactly the designated person for smart reasoning, at best, he can be very imaginative and think about stuff no one would ever think about. Maybe that’s why she asked him actually. Maybe they’re not scared of us but because we can’t see them so they’re freaked out because they didn’t realize they’re dead? Oh no I know! Maybe they think we are dead!!”
A few moment later, there is a witch symbol drawn on a sheet of paper and weird noises coming from the only room they aren’t in. Maria is squeezing Bellamy’s arm tight and he would have protested if he wasn’t too busy listening closely for other alarming sounds and trying to not move at all so that the ghost wouldn’t know they’re here.
“What the fuck mate??”
“I don’t know I was just thinking!!!” actually, he is always thinking, even though one can’t really tell since the majority of his thoughts are either totally random or would change too quickly to be caught.
“I thought you didn’t want to summon her?”
“I didn’t!!! Oh my god why would I summon Bloody Mary in your apartment???”
“Fucking hell.”
“I’m sorry!! It wasn’t supposed to work!!”
Suddenly, a shadow appears behind the door and Bellamy is clinging hard to Maria.
“You imagined it, she supposed to be stuck in mirrors.”
“She can’t be stucked behind a mirror and make noises like this!!” he says back before whining in her ear because damn, he should have listened to his grandma.
“Don’t blame me! You thought about her when you were supposed to think about Bob Fosse!”
“It’s not my fault!!!” maybe a little, but everyone knows he isn’t really good at concentrating on only one thing. They should definitely check to be sure though, maybe it was nothing right?
“You’re coming with me.”
“Okay,” he whispers. He lets her hoist him up and grabs her upper arm while staying safely behind her. He might be taller, but she’s definitely the one who can fight a demon if they find one, so he trusts her for that.
She opens the door, he tenses and gets ready to pull her with him and straight out of the apartment if a screamer comes out of the room, but there is nothing at all.
“I’m kinda really disappointed right now.”
Bellamy stays silent for a few seconds, scanning the room in case something would appear all of a sudden. “I'm not mad about it,” he says with a shrug, finally breathing again.
“Maybe the ghost move to another room with a mirror.”
Bella’s fingers claw at Maria’s arm again and strangely enough, he is suddenly more frightened by her grin than by the potential ghost wandering in the mirrors.
“I'm gonna throw a rug over every one of them, he states quickly. He lets go of his emotional support arm and almost runs toward the living room to grab a blanket. Next stop to the bathroom, he closes his eyes to hang the blanket the best he can, then rushes out. The room is next, he just covers the mirror with the first thing he finds, and feels really better afterwards. Now we're safe, she can't see us anymore.”
« I don’t know, why are you asking me??? » She looked at him like he said the most absurd thing ever. Because he did just said the most absurd thing ever. « Because you’re good at coming up with random theories and things like that. » She answered like it was the most logical thing, ever, because it was. « Maybe they’re not scared of us but because we can’t see them so they’re freaked out because they didn’t realize they’re dead? Oh no I know! Maybe they think we are dead!! » Ah, she knew she was right to ask him. Now she had a really stupid explanation to something even more random and that probably did not need any explanation. Except that Maria needed to have an answer to her question and she was really glad that she had a bestfriend capable of imagining theories like this one, because now she could actually think of a semi-logical reason why ghosts were not afraid of them and she was much more at peace with that. « Oh my god, that’ why they try to scare us ? They want us to disappear and go back to the other side ? That’s kinda sad when you think about it. » She told him with a smile, a bit too invested in the theory.
And maybe she was starting to regret ever asking Bella to summon ghosts with him, because she should have known something was going to go wrong. Something always went wrong when the dude was involved - no she was not exaggerating, just slightly panicking. Bellamy’s arm tightly squeezed in her own hands, Maria was not about to get an inch away from the only other person in the apartment, eyes fixated on her bedroom’s door in case some non living thing - or a cat - was to emerge from it. « I don’t know I was just thinking!!! - You’re not supposed to be thinking!! » She squeaked at him, even more panicked than before, because she knew how bad it could be in her friend’s head - way too many years to count spend with him, she had experience with his mind - and it could not be a good thing. « I didn’t!!! Oh my god why would I summon Bloody Mary in your apartment??? - I don’t know, curiosity??? » She would have done it out of curiosity, not in her own apartment though, she was not stupid. Or maybe she was, otherwise she would have not tried to summon anything with an unpredictable variable next to her. « I’m sorry!! It wasn’t supposed to work!! » And now she was just glaring at him, clearly mad that he never listened to her. « Why wouldn’t it work?? I told you it was not something you should mess with ‘cause it can be dangerous. » They clearly messed with the thing, and from where they were standing - so very far from the scary room with the scary noises - it was also very clear that there was some dangerous thing in her bedroom.
Bellamy squeezed her even tighter than before if it was possible and started stating nonesens. So Maria relaxed just a tiny bit, maybe they were just overreacting because of the eerie atmosphere around them. « She can’t be stucked behind a mirror and make noises like this!! - She’s a ghost she can do whatever she wants!! » Hopefully not get out of the mirrors though, Maria was not really keen on having a dead roomie haunting her place. « It’s not my fault!!! » She gazed up at him, unconvinced look plastered on her face. « Yes it is. » Kind of. She should have known he was not going to be able to focus. In no time, Maria still refused to let go of her friend, dragging him toward her room, whether he wanted it or not. She needed moral support and her cats were nowhere to be found. « Okay, » So she was definitely overreacting, the proof that were nicely sleeping on her bed, totally pretending they did not make a mess that nearly caused Bella and her to have a heart attack. The felines were lucky she loved them, she would have been so mad otherwise. « I'm not mad about it, » She was not really surprised. « Come on a ghost would have been fun! » Or not, but kind of, because now she would have had proof that they were real and just it was a cool thing to have a ghost around, especially if they did not plan to stay for too long. « I'm gonna throw a rug over every one of them, - Okay. » SHe shrugged, not about to interfere if that made him feel better, following him around the place to make sure he did not hurt himself in the rush of the panic. « Now we're safe, she can't see us anymore. - Thanks baby. You wanna do a cleansing ritual to be sure it’s safe ? » She asked softly, feeling a little bit bad that he was actually that scared.
“You’re not supposed to be thinking!! Fair enough; Bellamy doesn’t say anything else except some attempts to justify himself, which is useless because she's convinced it's his fault and he won't be able to change her mind. Anyways, arguments are annoying to him, he just shrugs, listening with half an ear to her complaints. Why wouldn’t it work?? I told you it was not something you should mess with ‘cause it can be dangerous”
“Well it was your idea,” he says. He didn’t agree in the first place, he knew (or at least his grandma knew) that it was a bad idea but he followed because she insisted, now it’s her fault if Bloody Mary is trapped in the apartment with them.
They have to make sure though, Bellamy tightly wrapped around Maria’s arm as they argue again about the capacities of the ghost. The room is empty, Bella is feeling better and his grip on his friend is getting looser. “Come on a ghost would have been fun!”
“Absolutely not, he is extremely happy that the cat had a frenzy and caused all the fuss - way better than a ghost who tears people’s eyes. He still makes sure to cover the mirrors, at least as long as he’s there, and he smiles when Maria thanks him (yeah, he can be smart sometimes.) You wanna do a cleansing ritual to be sure it’s safe ?”
“Yes please, I don’t want my granny to feel the bad vibes on me, he answers, padding back to the couch on which he drops like a masse, face down. I swear we’re never doing that again.”
